Angie Koops (Kaikoura) smashed the Women’s final leaving the other three surfers ‘combo’d’ (requiring a combination of scores of 10.0 points). Koops Scored 15.0 to win the final with 8.0 and 7.0 point rides. The final was a first for Koops who has specifically travelled back from Australia to contest the event. While in Australia Koops has been studying at Southern Cross University completing a sports management/surfing studies course. Her increased time in the water and good waves she has been experiencing has most definitely aided her surfing.
Koops had impressed the judges all week consistently surfing to the highest scores in her heat. Her domination of the final today was a continuation of her form.
In second place was Daisy Thomas (Chch) scoring an 8.15 point total heat total. Thomas was another standout throughout the week but the tough conditions today proved too challenging and luck was not on her side in her bid to find the best waves. Auckland’s Mischa Davis placed third in the final with fellow Auckland surfer young Rosa Thompson in fourth.
