Cheers for the Quad Dave...

Hi Dave,
Thanx for building this great board.. In the usualy small and gutless surf here in the Netherlands this puppy just goes sweet! I bought it last october after I've had testdriven a DQ6 and a DK6. Frank from CellBlock in Utrecht pretty much challenged me into trying one. He figured I would get 20% more waves and way more fun than on my standard shortboard(6'2 18-1/2 2-1/2) in the dutch surf. Too bad he was wrong.. I actually get almost 50% more waves and heaps more fun than ever imagined just by changing boards.. so it's working out realy well. While testing I found the DQ to responded better to the smaller wave conditions than the DK which needs more steepness on the face to accelerate. The DQ allows you to catch a wave early and setup a good line down the face and accelerate smoothly. All in all heaps of fun in a tiny package :-)

So a friend of Diverse is on the Qld breast cancer council, a benifit/charity organization to raise funding for research etc. She asked if we could get a board autographed by Kelly Slater for a charity auction. so thru a friend of a friend we got it all organized and i made a 5'9"quad just like i thought i would like to see Kelly ride.
here is my #2 daughter Teena holding the result... i thought it was pretty cool what he wrote on it!... it raised $4000 dollars tonight!

The cheap price of a new board!

We found a Quote on the net today " just found an old receipt from 1994. (un-named brand) $435. this was my favorite thruster and worth every penny. at the time is was a good $20 more than any other board i saw. i rode that board to hell and back. snapped it in 2..dowled it and fixed it...rode it for another 4 months snapped of the nose in the infamous windansea shore break ( south side) on an ill fated right barrel to the sand. duct taped it and got a couple more weeks out of it.

that board was magical and i would gladly pay $700 for that thruster again..

So we started having a discussion today about new surfboard prices...

lets see the math. So average price of a new shortboard at DIVERSE is $660. lets say it lasts for 1 year, ok how much has it cost you? $1.80 a day... yep half the price of a coffee or 2/3rds of a can of coke!

You all know about our 50% trade in for 12 months dont you...? So lets do the math again. $660 for a new board then if prices dont go up in the next 12 months, your back for your trade in... another $330 later your out the door with another newie!.. so total spend for 2 years $990= $1.35 a day! ludicrous.
keep that going for another year... $1.20 a day....

The moral of the story is this...

life is short.

Your life as a surfer is even shorter.

Get the #$%&ing surfboard you really want. Get it NOW!

Come on into our shop , Organize a demo or a session with our Shaper.. get what you really need in a board...

PNG Photo's

Here’s a couple of shots from PNG. I rode the 6’3 for most of the trip but busted out the 5’11 at Nago left on one of the good days. The 6’3 went so good, really fast and held it’s line so well in critical positions.

That right hander was super quick and shallow, it’s definitely the best wave around the island. We’d followed a storm up the river from another break, thinking we’d just have a look. We pulled up and it’s pissing down rain, about 4ft plus on the sets and pumping. The local groms were all over it, riding half boards, quarters of boards, boards with fins missing, no fins and even a kid on a full size “wahu” Kmart special trying to charge the bigger sets right out the back. In between sets they’d swap boards, body surf over the super shallow razor blade of a reef and laugh at us soft whitey’s with our booty’s and leggy’s! One kid had his own custom dug out canoe – sick!

The picture was taken on the end section after a solid speed run. Blow it up a bit and you can actually see the boils and how shallow it is. I was just doing laid over bottom turns into big speed hooks – absolutely frickin’ flying on my backhand! Lou told me later that if you make one mistake there or if you don’t commit totally no matter what the size you’re going to lose some serious skin.

That left is Nago. It’s got a decent take off on it, followed by a juicy middle section that you could just wind up on, and then on the bigger sets a solid short barrel on the end section. Pretty shallow at the end but once I got it sussed no dramas. This wave worked the most while we were there. Had a four hour session out there with just me and Payney one day. Sets were head high + and just rolling through for about 100 metres. This day was kid of pulsey – no sets for 20 minutes and then five 2-3 footers would come through, then nothing for another ten or twenty minutes. Not as good as Nusa Left but still heaps of fun though!

Video to come soon.

Thanks again for the magic 6”3 Dave!
